The Next Obama

Updated: Mar 22, 2022

So many inventions have been inspired by nature. Through observation and study of nature, humans have developed new technologies or optimized existing ones. Nature in itself is perfect, that’s why we can learn from it and adapt the similar structure and organization in our development. We can consider so many things like the development of a seed into becoming a tree and that tree bears more seed and becomes a forest. Think about how eaglets are pushed off a cliff without any established knowledge of flying. All of this makes us understand that there are certain external forces that we should engage with for growth to be possible.

One day, I was sitting in a café and to my surprise, I noticed the former president of the United States of America, Barack Obama seated, enjoying his cup of coffee. No one was bothering him, it seemed as if no one could notice him sitting there. To those who know me, you may be wondering when this happened. Well, this is a scenario that came to my mind as I was meditating on the goals that I am going to accomplish in the future. Seeing Obama seated in a café and having no one disturb him for a picture or an autograph is impossible. He has grown to a level of influence where he can’t walk in public without drawing attention. His growth has limited him to a particular lifestyle and likewise, we are headed in a direction where we are going to be very influential people and there is a need for us to take note of the limits that our vision will impose on our lifestyle. Understanding the restrictions our future aspirations have on us should make us disciplined enough to know what we should be doing. The future president of Ghana can’t find themself indulging in activities that are deemed unfit in the Ghanian culture. They have to try by all means to conduct themselves in the right way or else their actions today will affect them in the future. This is the similarity between us and nature. The seed requires water to germinate and we need the discipline to grow to the level of influence we want to attain. At a later stage after germinating, the plant now requires light and this light should be optimum, or else the heat will destroy the plant. This is the same with us, at some point our public conduct will be essential for those we are leading and inspiring, but we should not forget that this same system that will elevate us, may destroy us if we are not careful enough. I remember in high school during my Agriculture class exercise, I was asked to mention factors that are important for seed germination. On my list of answers I mentioned light and I still remember the disappointed look on my teacher’s face. The seed germinates in the dark and this we can easily tell by how we plant. We bury it in the ground and it is subjected to water and nutrients in darkness. We should never be clueless about what is required for us to grow and become business people, doctors, writers, and any other aspirations. At some point in life, certain things are not necessary and their presence is irrelevant to us. Once we grow to a certain point we will need something else for that stage but we should be very careful about everything that’s around us. We should understand the consequences of growth and enjoy the benefits of every stage of life we find ourselves in. Once we get past a certain level, we are disqualified from certain privileges and we take up a new lifestyle. You are the next Obama, Oprah, Mother Teresa, so go through the journey with care.
