Why am I going through these phases in my life? Why me? Why am I here? Where am I headed to in this life? Am I relevant enough, am I making progress or I’m simply moving in circles? These are just a snippet of the questions that consistently bombard our minds every now and then and the depressing part is we often seem not to have any answers to them. Surprisingly, in as much as we go through hailstorms and dark days, dawn will eventually break, the sun will shine again and you’ll realize that it was only a matter of time for things to fall in place. This could be the intriguing solution to the questions we so often bear in our hearts, TIME could be the answer. I’ve come across a number of famous quotes which made me realize that even though time may be referred to as an inanimate object, it has a voice in its silence, like the famous quote which says, “Time will tell.”
You cannot talk about time without mentioning patience because life is a succession of events implying that we go through stages that don’t always take place all at once, therefore, patience comes in as we wait on the fulfilment of events or promises. “Time lost can never be recovered,” that’s a very uncommon truth which makes most of us feel unease. That so often happens because we tend to make plans, draft objectives but at the end of the day we fall under the spell of procrastination, a thief of time they say. Of course you might cover up later but the chance and opportunity would have gone by and the sad truth is that some opportunities only come knocking once and if the door is not open, you may never cross paths with them again.
Time can be the only answer to why you are in whatever position you are in, be it geographically, spiritually, emotionally, just to name a few. A couple of times we tend to forget that our current actions and decisions catch up with us in time, and so when we get to the future, which might be just days, weeks, months or even years later, you’ll realize that it was just a matter of time for events to unfold.
When you know what time it is, you make the necessary adjustments in order to yield results in that season. When the summer season is nigh, a wise farmer knows they have to start clearing the land and making it ready for seeding before the rains come. Wisdom comes in knowing what to do and therefore doing it. Knowing information is one thing but having the wisdom to know what to do with that knowledge is immensely valuable. The manifestation of your purpose in life is attached to time, meaning that some situations you go through and the places you find yourself in are merely a package of purpose unravelling. Some events leave us wounded, in doubt and in despair for a season but in time, you realize it made you stronger and wiser and you’ll be able to face the same challenge with boldness and faith, being aware that it came, but will soon pass.
The other thing I know about time is that it heals. I’m sure we’ve come across this statement depicting that no matter how deep the wound is, it will eventually become a scar with just but a memory and no pain. Every new season of your life will be an opportunity for you to learn and grow and to celebrate both the good and the bad moments because they both work together to prepare you for the next season of your life. You can’t reach your potential by remaining in a past due season. Looking closely at life, our anxieties, stress and worries are all forms of fear caused by too much focus on the future and not enough presence. Guilt, regrets, sadness, bitterness are all caused by too much focus on the past, and not living in the moment. Don’t rush the process. Pushing a flower to prematurely bloom, or rushing a caterpillar out of its cocoon will hinder its growth and that’s exactly what happens to us when we let our lives be copies of those we believe are progressing ahead of us. Hold on for a moment and embrace each chapter from your story and experience the wonder of being nurtured.
I’ll conclude with this beautiful quote by Steve Southerland, “I believe in process. I believe in four seasons. I believe that winter’s tough, but spring’s coming. I believe that there’s a growing season. And I think that you realise that in life, you grow. You get better.”
