How to Stop Procrastination

Updated: Mar 22, 2022

”I can just do this tomorrow” or “I will do it later after I take a nap, eat, or bath”. These are the famous words of us, procrastinators. The funny thing is people will actually think we do not want to be told what to do but in fact, we will be suffering from low energy levels. In my defense, I would like to call it LOW ENERGY LEVELS. Procrastination is when you delay or postpone the action of doing something. The avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplished by a certain deadline. My mother always thought me procrastinating was my way of telling her that I didn’t want to be sent on errands or being told what to do. She associated that with laziness. Stopping procrastinating is not an overnight miracle or something that just goes away. It’s all about self-control and consistency. Getting yourself into a routine. The following are some of the ways to stop procrastinating.

• You need to set clear goals that are achievable and realistic. Goals that will motivate you to do whatever it is that you need to do. • Break down the workload into portions. The moment you see it’s a lot and you try to tackle it all in one goal, you feel defeated hence procrastinating that you will do it later. • Give yourself rewards, just to motivate yourself. Tell yourself that if I reach this certain goal, I’m rewarding myself with this. Don’t be like me who ends up just rewarding myself even without reaching my goal for the day. • Give yourself a deadline. That way after breaking down the workload you divide it according to your timeline. • Give yourself breaks in-between. • Confidence and self-love affirmations also help put your mind at ease. They give you confidence and motivate you that you can get it done. It’s a better way to start your day with a clearer mindset.
