Growth, one of the most vivid memories I still have about my junior primary school year revolves around this word. I can clearly remember my teacher asking me, “Anesu what do you want to do when you grow up?” I would swiftly and keenly stand up then boldly say, “When I grow up I want to become a clown, teacher.” The whole class would laugh and clap their hands for me and I would gleefully sit down then listen to the premature dreams and ambitions of others. The funny thing is today when I look at myself, I can never seem to figure out where that clown went. I guess since I am still growing, I will let time unravel that mystery. For now, we can just be fascinated by how this simple process of cell enlargement and numerical increase, not only frames your growth. This results in better protection from infections and an efficient flow of blood to all our anatomy and physiology as humans but also creates the platform for dreaming to become clowns.

Firstly, what creation teaches us about growth is that it is an essential phenomenon for all forms of life. From the simplest forms of bacteria to the most complex animal, the crucial constant process observed from their existence is growth. Every organism needs to grow in order to survive. The younger you are, the more susceptible you are to death and diseases but the more you grow, the stronger and more resistant you become. For instance, vital body systems such as the immune system and cardiovascular system develop as body tissues. We can therefore safely conclude that in order to just exist on planet earth, before our dreams and goals, relationships and entanglements one simply needs to grow. Subjective to cellular type and structure, environments for optimum growth seem to differ between organisms. For humans, a balanced diet is one of the most important requirements for growth. Growth becomes retarded when certain nutrients are lacking in one’s diet. For example, protein and starch malnutrition are the main causes of kwashiorkor and marasmus in developing communities. Anorexia nervosa is also another saddening condition commonly found in women who limit food intake in fear of gaining weight or because of a strong desire to remain thin. A balanced diet is crucial to our physical and mental development. If you desire to grow to become anything in life, a balanced diet is simply a mandate. Simple good habits of eating the right kind of food in the right amounts result in a fit body that is growing very efficiently and is most likely to grow to a high elderly age. A lot of the diseases affecting people today and terminating their growth process are caused by wrong diets. Cancers and cardiovascular diseases are the diseases with the highest mortality rates these days and a lot of them are caused by the food we eat. Regular exercise and getting enough sleep are also the other two elements that facilitate growth and a healthy lifestyle. It is believed that most individuals need at least 7-9 hours to function efficiently. Enough rest with regular exercising improves the general functioning of your body, every system in your body functions more efficiently when you get enough sleep. This results in better growth and a better functioning brain. Regular exercise is good for body muscles and it improves heart function. The excitement and tearing of muscles when one exercise allow for their growth and development. The same applies to the heart as it is also a muscle, regular exercising develops heart function. A healthy heart is key if you want to live for a substantial amount of years, it reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. A healthy lifestyle is important for our growth and development. Realizing all these facts, the responsibility to put oneself in an environment that necessitates optimum growth and better health rests in the hands of the organism reading this article.
