On the Dessert Menu today we have Fried Ice Cream, one of the most tantalizing desserts which most of you are going to get obsessed with after being served or serving yourselves. What is fried Ice Cream? This is one of the most intriguing questions that are kind of hard to give a precise answer to since there are a plethora of cuisines around the world that serve fried ice cream. However, in general, fried ice cream is a dessert made from scoops of ice cream coated in raw eggs then rolled in bread or chocolate crumbs and briefly deep-fried. Origin It is said that the dessert originated from the Ice Cream Sunday that was invented at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. A Philadelphia company was also highly credited in 1894 for the invention and it described the fried Ice Cream as a small, solid cake of the [ice] cream that is enveloped in a thin sheet of pie crust and then dipped into boiling lard or butter to cook the outside to a crisp. Served immediately, the ice cream is found to be as solidly frozen as it was first prepared. The Mexican Cuisine is very familiar with fried Ice Cream since the 1980’s when it became a signature dessert made with cinnamon and tortillas. In Australia, fried ice cream is associated with Asian cuisine and particularly Australian Chinese cuisine and there in China, fried ice cream is one of those par excellence desserts.

To make: • Put nine scoops of ice cream on a baking sheet. Each scoop should be about three inches in diameter. Put them in the freezer for one hour. • Combine the cornflakes and cinnamon in a bowl. Then roll the ice cream balls in the mixture. After rolling, put the balls on a baking sheet and put them back in the freezer overnight. • Using either a skillet or deep fryer, heat the oil to 375 degrees. You want to fry one scoop of the ice cream at a time for just 8 to 10 seconds. Top with some honey and whipped topping and serve them right away. • If you want to store them for later, you can wrap each scoop individually in plastic wrap after rolling it in the cornflake mixture and put them in a freezer bag. They can be preserved for two months. Enjoy the dessert!!!
