Happy new year! Happy birthday! Oh how we wait impatiently with countdowns to hear these phrases. Many come up with great goals and lists of what to do in the era to come. These kinds of celebrations somehow mark the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
As a child, you might have felt disappointed in most cases whereby an hour would feel like the whole day and personally, those sleepless nights after a nightmare would last forever or when you are late it seems as if your life is being fast forwarded. This is so because we tend to ignore that time is a unique gift that has to be understood. We can spend as much time trying to prove whether time is a constant or an independent variable like what others say. But that is not what l am referring to. I would like to address time as a treasure or rather a gift given to us all. However, that statement alone is not quite complete. We need to understand that as much as we have the same “gift of time”, the way we handle that particular gift differs from one person to another. Oftentimes we lose ourselves trying to live in that time or moment that is not specifically for us. You could be living your life in the timeline of your peers or teachers or even your parents. By so doing, you might find yourself in situations that you were never meant to be in simply because you are operating in a wrong time zone.
Therefore, as an individual you need to understand every second and stages of your life. You need to dwell in that season that is meant for you, walk and work in your time zone. It is good to look up to great people or role models but it takes wisdom and understanding to know that they are operating in that time zone meant for them so there is no need for you to force or implicate yourself to be just like them, take your time for what took them where there are now is the understanding of the time and seasons in their lives.
Knowing the time and season you are in is very crucial. A maize seed has its own timeline different from that of a peach seed. If the maize seed tries to wait for the peach seed in order to germinate, it loses its value and there won’t be any maize crop, and the opposite is equally true for a peach seed. As individuals, there are seasons of our lives that are unique to us. Failure to acknowledge this often leads to frustration, and low self-esteem amongst other negative things. We lose more time trying to fit our life pieces into the wrong puzzle.
We are raised in a society that not only has set standards but set time frames as well which in most cases is misleading. We need to learn to appreciate every moment as it comes bearing in mind that there is a season for everything, even the bible stated that. Don’t feel discouraged when others around you seem to be making it and you are not. Do not feel pressured into trying to catch up with others. Allow yourself to endure every moment of life that will help you enjoy the beauty of this gift called time. Let every petal of your life uncurl as it should. Don’t wait for the new year’s countdown to start afresh, every morning is a fresh start. Remember you only live once so why not make the best out of this gift.
