Time

Every aspect of life seems to hang in the balance of time. “Time is against us...If time allows...Only time will tell.” These are frequent statements we say that symbolise the significance of time to us humans. It’s actually quite amusing again how I can write about time anytime I want as I am doing now. I guess the question going through your mind right now is what is time and how can we define it.

As we ponder the mysteries of time, there are quite a couple of approaches that we can take. Time is a very vast and robust subject that requires both a philosophical and scientific spectrum to explicate. Interestingly, the quest to elucidate time is one phenomenon where the overlap between physics and philosophy has proved to be very insightful rather than antagonistic. When I consider the various theories and suggestions that both fields bring to define time, the simplest conclusion that I can come up with is that time is a label which reflects the moment the universe is in. Regardless of which school of thought you endorse to unravel the majesty of time one supreme reality that every individual can’t escape is that your life is framed by time. In the equation of your life time is an ever present constant mathematically entangled with differing variables which are your life’s flows and processes.

Furthermore, time is a neutral entity governing the developmental processes of all forms of life. It shapes the complexity and current organisation of creation. For instance, when we analyse the role time plays in the biological principle of survival of the fittest. Time provides a platform where organisms better adapted to the environment effectively perpetuate their existence by passing on their desirable traits. The idea I am trying to pose with this illustration is simple. Time goes beyond the minutes and hours we see on the clock, it’s a window of opportunity that provides the platform for growth and development. The responsibility is upon us as individuals to use our time effectively and sustain a healthy, productive existence. So the opportunity is there to learn and develop yourself into the best that you can become.

Moreover, time is a journey of values. The underlying difference between individuals is a personal decision that is subjective to one’s sphere of life. Personalise time as an entity, strategically plan an efficacious flow of events in your life regardless of the untimely events that may come your way. You can be a victim of time when you fail to programme yourself to be constructive and fruitful in every field of your life. This is when life becomes a dreadful horror where you just wish for time to end. The battle for every human is the battle for purpose and the fortunate thing is that the time is there to find out your purpose and to fulfil it. Even if you fall sometimes you pick yourself up and further develop yourself intellectually, physically and spiritually for the journey of time.

My concluding thought is one concept that I have personally learnt in my journey of time. People have different timings so do not make the mistake of comparing yourself with others. I have shown you how time is a personal entity because people have differing starting points, processes and end points. Yes, what you become in the next few years rests in your hands but you don’t control the flow of time in the lives of others. Let the precious gift of time have its way in the lives of others and focus on the sequence of events that are in your life. Never forget the philosophy of the futility of time. The propagation of a series of successful events in another person’s life does not always imply a failure or delay in your case.
